That is the beauty of how this COMBO program is laid out...those players with the ingredients AND ability to go the more expensive route will be able to choose which they want to spend. (another perk for those buying lots of tokens.)

The way I read Dave's post is that the specific 3 ingredients can be used now for X Y Z items and again next year for A B C items. (or possibly only one item requiring a full set of ingredients??)

The answer we most need is: will COMBO items be required to build even better COMBO items in future years... My hope is that the answer is NO as COMBOs from past years will be harder and harder for new players to get - that is unless COMBOs are going to be carried over from year to year... ???

The official answer should be "we won't say, but keep your options open"

They shouldn't have to tell people to hold that ghoul tongue 6 yrs from now for Ghoulbane or somesuch.

Mind you, when people turn in the ingredients for combos this year, they will probably be recycled in the token generator boxes I am sure.

The original thought was to have ingredients given out the first two years of the trilogy and have all combined to make some really cool hard to make token in year three. The problem with that as has already been mentioned, is that newer players do not have the ability at all to make this one if they can not obtain ingredients from 2006. I also saw and heard from players that they wanted to see something to use the ingredients on in 2007, not just store them for 2008.

So to apease both, I decided to use each ingredient as formula A for one of each of the new combos. Formula B for each of the new combos has more items and costs more in gold to make, but does not include the ingredients, thus if you had the stuff on list B, you could make the combo without using the "special ingredient", however if you have the "special ingredient" you could manage to make the combo with less items and gold as the "trader" is really in the market for monster trophies.

To answer the question of "do I spend ingredients now or later", unless Jeff tells me otherwise I plan on sticking with the multi formula combos into 2008 so you can probably make all the 2008 combos without 2006 ingredients, but it might cost you...

I can not tell you what to do in this case, but I would be comfortable assuming that many of you who patronize TD through token purchase will be able to make 2008 combos with "special ingredients" or not. My goal is fun not unatenability.

Dave

So what is the answer to the question - will a combo token (blue cauldron - not ingredient) ever be needed to make a new combo item?

AND will past year combo items still be available for building?

And...(I would have assumed No), to restate someone's words as a question: Will Ingredient Tokens from previous years be available as treasure inside the dungeon. My assumption would be, "no." I would assume that ingredient tokens would only be findable in the dungeon of the year of publishing.

Thank you for the information!

JKW
Gary,
I am going out on a limb to say, no. I will (most likely, probably) not build a combo list that will use other combos. I frankly had not considered it. However, IF we did that at all I could only see it being for the special one promised in 2008, not for the yearly regular combo tokens (if there is such a thing).

The remaining combo tokens (left over from trading) were destroyed (as Jeff promised) with a “vial of conflagration” and a match (read lighterfluid and a lighter), so no there will not be any combo tokens available, from TD, that are left over from 2006 to trade for in 2007. That does not mean that if a particular token is popular, it will not be offered again (e.g. spear, ring, or dagger).

John,
You are correct. The ingredient tokens from 2006 will not be offered again in 2007's treasure generators. They represent "trophies" from the monsters you fought in 2006. While I can not promise you will never see the same monsters again, if you fought a similar or same monster, you might take a different trophy.

Dave

Dave,

The out on a limb answer makes good sense especially since the extra ones were torched.

Requiring a combo item to be used for another combo item is pretty pricey, and as many of us did not get more than one of the 2 or three cauldron ones - we would be left without a token somewhere down the line.

Good job! I can't wait to see what we can build in 2007 and 2008!

G
I always thought that combo tokens were themselves supposed to be ingredients in further years. Thus the various cauldron symbols on them. I went in thinking I'd get two of each crafted so I'd have one set to keep and one set to sacrifice in next year's craft.

Also, I think the drow blade venom should be an ingredient for this or next year and I'm not saying so just because I happen to have one around :P.

The bad thing about making combos part of an ingredient for a new combo item - is that noob players this year won't be able to get the previous year combo items...unless from people trading - not likely.

AND the Combo items were pretty hard to make - you said it yourself H - it cost roughly 8-900 gold to make all of them...

So I was just saying if ingredients alone are to be used to combo up - that is cool - and with a more expensive way to still build them - the noobs should be OK with that.

It's a balance like always. I thought it was kosher even before this two-path system to a combo. The way I figured it would work was that newbs would mostly make 1-2 cauldron combos and the more experienced people would chase the 3-4 which would require past combos. A Phial of Conflagaration required to make a Flaming Burst longsword for instance. There wouldn't be all that many around, true, but that's sort of the point.

It doesn't seem to me the "Very few" mentality is catching on in the Token world...

Artisan tokens had some mixed reviews...I personally think they were fine for what they were - a gold sink.

I wonder at what the fate of ARTS may be in TD future...
