You would sure think a machine could do it better...but no - I've now noticed the issue with the commons...it is pretty ugly.

Of course I throw all mine in a small SMAK-attack box...I only care so much about the RARES...(and they too still seem to have an issue - at least to me - but I think sorting the commons will also lead to RARES getting fixed too.)
The real concern is for a party getting equipment for their run. Has someone analyzed the stats for say 8 bags;

Nope. But I did do a (rough) probablility analysis on parties with 7 bags.

(I was bored, and trying to figure out whether newbie parties would hurt from the lack of a TD store this year, so I "rolled up" 10 parties worth of equipment, and took a look at the results. Note: this isn't proper statistical analysis, but I think the results would be pretty close to the mean.)

The average number of weapons per party was 13.5
The average for suits of armour per party was 6
Average GP per party (in coins + gems) was 324

Almost every party had some type of +1 weapon in their haul (2 of 10 did not). Many parties had multiple +1 weapons.

Of 10 parties, most were missing at least some type of standard dungeoning gear (whether it was 50' Rope, or a small steel Mirror, or something).

All had some healing magic. I think the spread was like 5 - 30 pts of healing, but I didn't write that down.

how likely is it that they will get a fair number of weapons and armor, and not 5 hammer/spikes and 4 mortar/pestles?

Most parties did end up with 5+ of some types of common gear. But they also had losts of weapons. On the low end, one party only had 9 weapons total, and 3 of those were slings or daggers, but at least everyone had something... or they could have had someone play the Monk, or let their wizard just cast from the 8 scrolls of Magic Missile they had.

Armour seemed to be in shorter supply than weapons, with most parties outfitting themselves with variants of leather. Maybe some chain or half-plate for the fighters.

Just my non-professional analysis.

- Raven

Thanks, Raven, very informative! Sounds like only a few parties would have problems, and if coach's have access to helpful tokens to trade, there should be few problems.

Brian
The problem is that the on-line roll doesn't seem to suffer the same number of repeats as the actual shipments.

Yes, I've received three 20 GP Coin Stacks in a roll on-line, however, it was not a common occurance, or if it did happen, it was usually a Different item that it happened with the next time it occurred. With the actual shipments received, it seemed I repeatedly received 3 of the same 2-5 tokens time and again.

Just pointing out the differences in case you used the on-line tool from TD>

Yes, the coaches will have helpful tokens to "donate" to the parties who may have a deficiency. However, at the very least all of the included token bags, if not every remaining one will be resorted, so that each party should have at least one weapon and some kind of armor per player.
