TOPIC: Golden Tickets...your thoughts?

Re: Golden Tickets...your thoughts? 16 years 3 weeks ago #73

I don't think there should be an "automatic" silver ticket for a certain token buy. I think Jeff already has enough promos for those that spend significant money--purples then modules then finally special things like wish spells.

I don't suppose I could WISH for a Golden Ticket this year, could I?

My opinion is that for this year nothing should change. People spent money based on certain assumptions and the promotion should be fixed.

For next year however, something like a Silver Ticket idea has merit I think, or even an expansion of the Gold Ticket promotion. But I do think that Gold Tickets should be random for a couple of reasons. First, if you tie it to purchases, then you lose control of the number of Gold Tickets that are sold. This alone makes it impractical if you want the Gold Ticket run to be special. And second, we already award large purchases with the PYP program.

I think Large purchasers are going to need something else next year in addition to PYP. The PYP promotion has been very sucessful over the past 18 months BUT at this point a lot of people who buy tokens by the 1000s have most if not all the purples they need to equip their character (or their party depending on the person).

I understand that with the number of tokens in the first printing I had a small chance of getting a gold ticket this year (about 37.5% chance with a $1500 purchase). However I was extremely disapointed not to win. However I have learned and next year I will not make ANY additional purchases based on the chance of a gold ticket. This year I had hoped to win, next year I assume I will lose.

So without some additional reward, I am likely to decrease my tokens purchase back to my "donation" level of $1000 next year.

And let's not forget - PYP works fine at $250 level...if you burn 2500 well you get 10 vs 1 but you are not in a league by yourself.

The Golden Tickets of old were making the big buys bigger and rewarding single buys of large amounts. I agree with George, we took that reward away when GTs went into random packs...it would be nice (and sales might follow) if there was something like a VIG package for the big spenders once again.

Gary, to a point, I agree. If someone spends $2500 on tokens, well, that person is ubercool and deserves something above and beyond just the PYP

But if a person spends $2500 on tokens then they have an increased chance of getting a Gold Ticket already.

Here is something else to think about. If you set the limit at $2500 dollars, there are some people that can't spend that much. I am guessing there are a lot of people that spent a little but more more to increase their chances of getting a Gold Ticket. If you create a target that is too high, then you take away that motivation. This is one of the reasons that the PYP was so successful. The target of $250 was reachable by a lot of people.

So yes, I agree that for people that spend $2500 on tokens, they should get something extra. But I also think that we should have a random *somthing* special and the chance of getting that *something* is tied to the number of packs you buy.

The Willy Wonka method! :D

I think ya missed my point...keep the random factor - but bring back a "spend X" factor specifically for Golden Tickets. (yes there are increased odds - but I even mentioned (I think I did at least) having a group of tokens set aside that do NOT have a GT in them randomly...this lot would be sold to big spenders who want to spend X and be assured of getting the GT.

The Wish Ring is ubercool - and I say if this is the trend for the future -that it is COOL - but I (like a few others) liked the "spend X" and get a GT guaranteed.

We agree - keep GTs in the random packs...but have a GT type event for the big spends...

Ok yeah, that might work. I would make the $ limit high enough to limit it to say like 5 GTs give or take to limit the impact to the random pulls.

Yep like it.

Here is another thing you could do as well:

Instead of the Gold Ticket for $2500 purchases, you get a one-of-a-kind item, an Artifact. These are UR to UR+ power level tokens but there is only one in existence. It would cost like $30 to make (maybe more?) but for $2500 orders, wow! A one-of-a-kind artifact? No one else has this item but you? I bet that alone would motivate people to throw down that kind of money.

And think of the possibilities!

+3 Sword of Legends (4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11)
Ring of Great Rewards (2 extra draws from treasure box; stacks with Horn)
+3 Mace of Greyhawk (4-5-6-7-8-9-10-#) Where # is instant kill to undead if "20"
Necklace of Power (All healing/damage spells are +1; stacks with Ring of Focus)
Rod of Ressurection (bring someone back to life with 1 HP, once per room)
Cloak of the Bear (Transform into a Bear; claw attack: 8-9-10-12-14-15-16)

Anyway, just throwing out some ideas. :)

I like that idea. However, it'd only work for a couple years. If you have 5 people per year hitting that mark, you're going to have to come up with a lot of different artifacts. I suppose you could come up with quite a few artifacts though. Here's some more.

+3 Short Sword of Knock(Knock spell 3x per dungeon)
+3 Mighty Longbow of Shock(fires magic arrows that do 1-6 + 6 electrical damage+Str bonus, Rangers only)
+3 Dagger of Magic(doubles memorized Arcane spells)
Eye of Vecna(caster class only, ie druid, cleric, mage, bard. Allows holder to take 10 damage and turn it into a 20hp Ray of Damage once per room, no saving throw automatic hit)
Shield of Pelor(Paladin only, +4 AC, doubles Lay on Hands effect, allows Paladin to Turn Undead as a cleric of same level)
+1 Short Sword of Speed(Allows 2 attacks per round)

Oh, I don't think this group would have ANY problems coming up with even 100s of token ideas.

The really nice thing about that idea is they are truely artifact class...only one in existance...hmmm - hope Jeff is reading...
