Traditionally, when you use the Javelin of Lightning, it effectively transforms into a lightning bolt (hence the shock damage, damage to multiple opponents, and one time use).
I guess there are a lot of people not familiar with classic ad&d.

Then it should be noted as a ranged weapon only, because the baseline Bone Javelin is a compound weapon (one that could be used as both melee and ranged attack).

I would say the majority are more familiar with 3.5ed, but now that Jeff has said he prefers the classic AD&D I am sure local used game stores will have a sudden shortage of rule books.

I was mostly a 2nd edition guy personally. Had the 1st ed books and I read through them, but you get attached to what you first play and I skipped right from dnd to 2nd edition adnd.

I favored Steve Jackson's games and rules myself, at least for basic combat. D+D had a lot more detail, creativity, internal consistency abd reflection of reality with everything other than the combat system. Steve Jackson was popular in gaming around the time of the civil war, when I was just a kid. My old gaming group is competing for roles in the next Coccoon movie, although I did manage to drag two of them out of the home for TD last august. They brought their walkers though.

You know as far as D&D rules went - I used the ones that made sense and ones I liked...and tended to forget the others...

Same went for all the spin off CHAR classes...some I really wanted in my campaigns, and others I could just not let in.

Gary aka: Grimwood, Cleric of the Western Woods CLERIC for life - I have the character card to prove it! Former owner of a Ring of Three Wishes and Jeff's finger!

Yes, our group did the same. We adopted the rules we liked from a variety of sources, and just didn't use the others. In the case of D+D, we decided most of it was good, excepting the combat system. I've enjoyed commenting on TD, which due to its real time and real action setting, has unique features and requirements that warrant simulation in a way different from D+D or any other paper and pencil game for that matter. It really is a unique work in progress.
I ran a steady D&D campaign from 1983 through 1993, mainly 1st Edition supplemented with Unearthed Arcana and then we transfered to 2nd Ed. when all that came out. I have run a handful of 3rd Edition games as well in recent years. I try not to judge True Dungeon stuff against any of the editions... I remember reading somewhere on the main site that it is not "D&D as you may know it". Whatever ruling works best for the environment which is True Dungeon is what should be used, regardless of regular D&D rules, IMO.

Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.

Basically, the Javelin of Lightning is like a Thunderstone or an Orb of Acid. How about I put "1 throw only"?

The clarifies it is a throw weapon only and that you only get one chance with it.
