The weight of the chip was something we really struggled with when designing the new tokens in 2007. We could have went with 7 gram or 11.5 gram. CLOUT chips are 7 gram, but decided that it was just "cooler" to go with the heavier 11.5 g chips. It was probably not the smartest move commercially, but why should I start being smart anyway? =D

I know the weight sucks for big token buyers, but I still get a kick out of seeing newbies hefting a new pouch of tokens in their hand -- and you can just see in their faces that they are pretending real gold pieces are in that pouch. That little grin they get is priceless.

We at our end can live with heavier tokens. We'll just flap a little bit harder.

Ya. It doesn't quite seem fair, does it? You always see all these women on Cops and other pseudo reality shows who are getting smacked around by boyfriends and husbands. All I want is a sammich occasionally. You'd think they'd want to trade up.

you are definately right about that, henry. it seems by the time they realize they have been picking losers, they have gathered enough baggage that anyone decent runs the other way.

not that i'm saying you're decent henry.

Feh. A 40% decrease in wait would be huge. Right now, I figure my poker case must weigh at least a good 35 pounds at the least. At 21 pounds, it sounds a lot better.

Maybe we could get our tokens certified somewhere? We give our tokens to TD and TD stores it in its warehouse vault somewhere. In return we get a certified list of our tokens and we can use them as if they were the tokens themselves. Hell, I'd probably pay for that. We can even trade the paper bits like stocks and bonds and instead of the actual tokens themselves.

What a clever idea. Can we maybe pay for tokens in advance at the current price to ensure that we get them for that price even if Jeff raises the price for buyers later? I'm sure the bank will lend me extra money to buy them now, then if they go up in value I make a profit, right? guarranteed gains, right? Can't wait.
That might be nice, though I can't see it as a serious option. TD probably gets a pretty big discount buying in bulk. Splitting into two different weights would likely weaken that and cause added problems of having to keep enough of both types in stock. Still, if it's workable, I'm all for it. Hell, I'd love a trade-in program since the weight is too much as it is.

I didn't say anything about having two different weights - just cutting the weight in half.

Virtual tokens...hmmm - I think this has been done. Not exactly Webkinz - but close!

So in response to a Jammies post on the VOL thread...hey look - maybe Virtual tokens is the answer!

I think you may be onto something H - although it might be tricky getting folks to $10 a pack for virtual stuff! Maybe the Webkinz model of physical item with Virtual ... no longer requiring players to produce physical tokens, but have them outfitted virtually and have this on record.

Only thing is - the ability to change or adjust would most likely require a computer or HUGE amount of Honor System.
