In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

I guess we can do this...so long as we just make copy the power of an existing token. I don't want to create more stress for Coaches and DMs.

Jeff, I like the idea of only allowing the white backed tokens on the planar runs, as that allows you to do some special things with them, to make the planar runs extra special. If you allow them on the regular runs you'll be much more limited in what you can do. And, based on the power level you were saying these would be (basic armor & weapons, etc) it is unlikely that most people would be using them on the regular runs anyway.

If they aren't allowed on regular runs, you might want that to be stated on the tokens themselves somewhere.

Hmmmm......what about this: If the token is identical to a normal token (like say masterwork thieve's tools), it could have something on the token that says it can work on a normal run. You could call it something like a planar masterwork thieve's tools, where planar explicitly means it can be used for both the demi-plane runs and normam runs. Then you could have other items that do not have planar, but with the white back that could only be used in the demi-plane?

What do people think of this idea?

If it's usable on normal runs, I'd rather it read like a normal token.
It would be easy for a DM to know if the token says "Planar" that it is only for non-material plane runs/rooms.

I'm liking how this is shaping up. :)

I have to agree if treasure pulls would replace the special volenteer token then no. Volenteers should get something special. More token pulls, while nice, arn't particularly "special". I hate to say it.

This years token is very usable, I would suggest more tokens like that. The previous years specialized tokens were alright but not quite as usable.

Back to the topic though,...

Bring price more in line with True Grind and adjust tokens to True Grind level and I think we've hit the sweet spot. Bascially its like a multi room grind.

Also good to know that the runs will be filled first come first serve but not actually cut off at a certain point. It would suck to spend 2k and not get the same reward all the others had access too.

This is a much better use of the space then some random tables people rarely sit at.

I wouldn't worry too much about the white tokens. I'm still on the camp that thinks they arn't needed. I do like the token restrictions of nothing less than relic on this run.

I think the concept of the white token is cool and would be a very neat momento but might lead to crazy down the road.
Just go with whatever is easiest enough to play balance.
If the adventure is cool and fun the number cruch behind it less important. Also consider difficulty levels. With a restricted token list you won't need to create the various levels of difficulty currently required.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

Great video, would love to hear the story behind it when you have a little more time Jeff.

@Valetutto

I think if you are only allowing relic and above you need the white tokens (or something) to replace some slots there are no relics for (ie weapons and armor). I don't think we need to fill every slot but a fighter without a weapon is not a fun class to play.

I trust Raven and Kim are more in tune with the volunteers than I. Truth be told, I was planning on volunteering for the first time next year, and will be doing so regardless of what Jeff comes up with for a reward.

As far as weapons go, next year should see the completed Rod of Seven Parts. I wonder how many people who would qualify for this run will have them? Between that, whatever Jeff releases this year for relics, and the fact the monks and wizards don't really need weapons, we may be fine in the weapons department. Armor may be more of an issue.

Also, I expect that much like the Golden ticket runs, parties will be organizing ahead of time and lending tokens where appropriate.

It just popped into my head that the completed Rod of seven parts might make a good generic weapon to take the demi plane once completed.

It's probably just me, but I'm very conflicted about converting the Rod. Instead I would just rather see a set bonus. That way you KNOW the complete Rod will be better than the sum of its parts, you don't have to make up weird rules about whether or not the parts stack with the full Rod, etc.

Or craft a token that unlovks the set bonus but doesn't require the parts to make. Because I want one of everything, so if I turn in the parts I'm just going into mourning until I replace them again...

Which has nothing to do with the planar gate, at least not directly.

The reasoning for not allowing tokens from this event to be used in the normal dungeon is the same as not allowing additional xp for it. The minute you do either, you're tempting fate and basically flipping everyone else who isn't a 2k buyer the bird. If people want a commemorative pin or medal or completion token, so be it, but it should be locked to either have no play effect in the normal dungeon or no play effect at all. Show off your bling if you must, much like the medallion of nobility or 8th level pin, but it should not win you some, even piddling, advantage in the dungeon at large.

That's why I suggest making them reprints. Then in the regular dungeon they are no different than Onyx tokens. No stronger or weaker, just a different cool back. But if you are on the special these (plus relics and legendaries) are all you can use.

As for changing the volunteer special token to pulls i would have to disagree. I was thinking of volunteering next year and i had about fifty pulls with the AoW and got nothing good. I would most likely still volunteer even if you did the pulls but then as someone else said its not special a memento and you can get pulls form runs and everyone gets pulls. I think the Special token attracts more players to volunteer.

I was thinking of doing BOTH the special token and free token pulls. Sorry for the confusion.
