TOPIC: Another bad experience with Gen Con Housing

Re: Another bad experience with Gen Con Housing 10 years 2 months ago #49

A case of their data lying to them. There WAS an issue with friday bookings, clearly we ALL saw it. The actual rooms may have indeed been availble but it clearly wasn't showing it. A passkey glytch who knows but it sucked.

Wonder why attendence is up so dramatically.

40th birthday of D&D perhaps?
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I think more people may have gotten their badge early this year so they can have it mailed to them. While I don't mind the lines at Gencon, I know a lot of people that were less than ecstatic.

speaking as one of the the people who looks after will call, wait times were dramatically down last year.

Gencon made several changes in the last 2 years that removed upwards 80% of waiting periods experienced in previous years.

we moved from volunteer staffing to paid temp staff, enlarged and changed the flow and layout of the badge boxes in the pick up area, and moved to a 24 hour pick time window.

One thing I love about Gencon is that they will try different things to make the con experience better.

Will call was very smooth for me last year. Previous years not so much

The best improvement made to the Will Call line was the ability to have your badge FedExed to you, therefore getting rid of the need to deal with Will Call entirely. After my first GenCon experience in 2011 when I had to wait over 2.5 hours in that line and had to frantically reschedule my first ever missed True Dungeon run, I now avoid Will Call at all costs.
I make chainmail! Check out www.ArcadianChain.com for chainmail jewelry and accessories, including token holders, dice bags, and d20 keychains.

The ways which I've dealt with Will Call:

1) Getting there on Wednesday and seeking to get my badge as soon as possible.
2) Being a VIG Companion, which allows me to pick up my badge and tickets in the VIG Lounge instead. That was a big timesaver.

I remember 2011 being bad as well.

I might go back to having my tickets mailed since it seems they now use USPS Signature Required delivery. When they used FedEx the envelopes were left on the porch to blow away! You had ZERO recourse because FedEx would say the packet had been delivered.

At least this way if the mail carrier forgets to have you sign they can still put it in the mailbox. That is something FedEx is not allowed to do.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

I've never had an issue with housing. I was in and out in ten minutes this year, with a room at the JW all to myself. Muhwhaha.
Blimey!
