Amongst our potential rolls are such diverse elements as: Fear, Surprise, Ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to True Dungeon, shiny necklaces, and level bonuses. And on a natural 20 (on a d6) you will be wheeled through the dungeon whilst sitting on a comfy chair.

It's the next closest thing to sprouting wings, and flying.

Druegar wrote: Per Jeff, if the AoW roll results in a HoP effect and your character already has a HoP effect and is 4th-level, you get the +1 level effect instead.

I will attempt to summarize this, Pelor help me...

For 2014, when either equipping an actual Amulet of Wonder or under the AoW effect, you roll a die to determine the effect:

  1. +2 to AC
  2. +3 to AC
  3. +3 To Hit on all attack slides
  4. +10 to max HP
  5. Horn of Plenty effect (three Treasure Chips per stamp)
  6. +1 Character level for that adventure
However:
  • If your character is both 5th-level and under a HoP-like effect*, if you roll either 5 or 6, reroll until you roll 1-4.
  • If your character is 4th level and you've got a HoP-like effect* and you roll a 5, it counts as a 6 (you get to play at 5th-level)
  • If your character is 5th level but you don't have a HoP-like effect* and you roll a 6, it counts as a 5 (you get the HoP effect)
Is there any permutation, combination, or convolution that doesn't cover?

*whether from equipping a actual Horn of Plenty, being on a Golden Ticket run, under the influence of an artifact, or anything that grants three Treasure Chips per Treasure Stamp

Im sorry, one last wrinkle; do we have to decide on all equipment before rolling? Since this will mostly come up with my parties where we can all roll, and if we have a total of five HoP, give them to the people who didnt roll 5 or 6.
this is not a signature.

But they would only be rolling if they are equipping an AoW, so they couldn't equip an HoP as well.

I suppose I will be the one to make the sour noise, and raise my objection to the Amulet of Wonder effect changing.

Not that I'm displeased per se. The new powers are amazing, and I much prefer them.

But I don't think the decision was wise.

I, like many others, specifically ordered an Amulet of Wonder because we felt its powers over the coming years would be worth it. In fact, those powers were announced for several years in advance specifically for the purpose of encouraging players to order an Amulet of Wonder.

Of course, the powers were "subject to change". But the fact remains that people spent hundreds of more dollars on tokens than originally planned, specifically because we were told certain effects would be available. The first year worked out. The second year is bust. Will the third year prove a miff as well? I suspect so.

In this particular case, the new effect is excellent enough to where I think everyone will be forgiving. But it's the principle I'm considering here.

Reminding us the powers were not official and final doesn't soothe hurt feelings very well. If you release information for the explicit purpose of encouraging more sales, don't be surprised if someone feels ripped off when they found out your sales pitch was only 1/3 true.

I think that's a fair criticism Garrison. The only thing I can say in TPTB's defense, not that want me to defend them*, is things change. And things need to be allowed to change, especially if they're for the betterment of the game.

I know Jeff has concepts and features he wants to implement in the future. However, as the future edges closer to the present, sometimes plans cannot remain static, even if he wants them to. Designs don't work out. A concept is too problematic. There are a thousand things that can affect the design and implementation of a dungeon. Would you really be happier if he had stuck with the wings benefit if it didn't jibe with the module? Maybe you would, but I'd be willing to bet most other people would be, let's just say, less than enthusiastic.

*For the record, this is not something I was asked to post. These are just my personal thoughts/opinions and are in no way official.
