The winning bid would have been 1860 for those that are interested and keep track of prices

I have run a few and this way did not work as well as I would have liked. The PMs and timing made it difficult to sort out the flood of messages at the end.

I would agree with Kirk but scale the amount higher by auction. $50 below a $1000 auction is too steep. I would even say $25 between $1000 and $2000 is probably adequate.

After I was disappointed with the sniping last time I ran an auction I came up with a plan for next time:

24 hours before the end of auction, the high bidder gets the right to match the winning bid.

This disencentivizes sniping since even if you 'win' at the last minute, the person winning the day before can just match your bid and take the 'win' back.
And sniping 24 hours early to get the right to match means you still have to match the top bid.
