TOPIC: A Quest for Heroes! – American Cancer Society Benefit "Cubes Cubed" $470 Raised!

You find it becoming increasingly difficult to turn the large cogwheel. As you move it the first click, you feel a uncomfortable tingling sensation in your fingers. Though confident in your deduction of the situation, you press on... When you move it the second click a severe shock runs down your arm paralyzing your hand and arm to the elbow.

The voice echoes... "You have chosen poorly"

I gently pull our paralized friend from the door. I then try to push in the smaller cog

As you pull Joshua from the door you are both encouraged that his Figurine has seemed to do the trick and feeling begins to slowly return progressively to his lower arm but his hand is still quite useless.

Pressing in the small cog you feel it slide into place and hear a mechanism inside the door chick and whirr. As this happens the larger cogwheel returns to its original position and then stops while the center cog pops back out and the door goes silent once again with the sparkling points of light glowing as usual.

If we reach $25 in winning bids I shall give you all another clue...

is making me think that the gear(s) need(s) to be turned counter-clockwise.

I rotate the big gear counter-clockwise, one click at a time awaiting any feedback from the door.

I stop at the thirteenth counter-clockwise click.

You trepadiciously reach out and take hold of the large cogwheel to begin to turn it expecting a jolt, yet when nothing happens you cautiously prepare yourself to get hammered as you turn it one click counter-clockwise. Visions of searing bolts of lightening assailing you cloud your mind...

To your relief the cogwheel moves smoothly this direction yet does not click and no ill effects assail you.

Gathering you courage you press on and as the violet sparkle on the cogwheel passes the violet sparkle on the lower left of the door, they each glow brighter with the same intensity and at the same time all of the blue sparkles slowly fade away.

You pause momentarily feeling like you are potentially on the right track but also nervous about what this could mean. Staying true to your course of action you continue to rotate the cogwheel counter-clockwise. When the violet sparkle on the cogwheel passes the violet sparkle on the upper right of the door, they each glow brighter with the same intensity and at the same time all of the white sparkles slowly fade away.

At this point you have moved the cogwheel at least as far as you would have expected 13 clicks to be and the door looks like this...

(Please ignore the fact that the mountain and bar shape upon the door is not reflecting the correct orientation you would think at this point. My Photoshop skills are lacking but that is not what matters...)

What do you do?

I continue spinning the gear counter clockwise until the violet sparkle aligns with the one in the top left corner.

If the violet sparkles fade, I press in the small cog.

Confident in your belief you have solved the puzzle you continue in your course of action rotating the cogwheel to align the last violet sparkles.

As you rotate the cogwheel into the final position lining up the violet stars sequentially, a muted flash indicates that the magical aura has dissipated. The violet sparkles also vanish, yet the door does not open.

Maybe it's due to your superior intellect, or the divine intervention as prayed for by Alan, you are not completely sure, but...you feel emboldened to press the small cog at this point.

The quest continues...

Upon pressing the small cogwheel, you hear a grinding noise emanating from beyond the door indicating something is releasing within the door itself. Once the noise stops, a quick momentary flash can be seen within the vertical crack of the two door panes and all the way around the edge of the door where it joins with the wall. What do you do?

The elf wizard draws a few tattered scraps of crumpled green cloth-like paper from a small leather pouch. With a wordlessly mouthed prayer, the papers alight and begin forming shapes in the air in front of the party.

Much to your party's surprise the green papers appear to be an acceptable offering as they float near the door and then seem to be instantly sucked into the crack centered on the face of the door. Shortly thereafter the same voice speaks once more...

"AHHH thou hast pleased me
For mine gifts do not come for free.

Is entry thine plea?
Another riddle this be
Follow my words to see
And speak forth the key"
