Good question. We did not offer any XP at WYC last year, so we will probably continue that at both WYC and GHC. We could do something like 1000 XP if this is your first time to get new folks into the fold. Thoughts?

I think I would like to see that expanded even further, maybe the Madison Run could give credit to anyone who did not run both of the gencon runs?

We have to be careful about escalating our requests too much when Jeff offers something nice, or he might stop :)

MAYBE the rule could be "count a max of two runs per year, and WYC/GHC count as one run," but I expect that's going to be a bit more controversial.

But if the point was to help acquaint newbies with the XP system in a lower-pressure environment than GenCon, and to let them Grind after a run at a side convention, then expanding the rule goes way beyond that.

I know - those poor Australians totally get the short end of the stick that way, don't they?

Seriously, tho - It's not just me who tries to play for max XP every year. There's a few others who've been religiously attending since the beginning and would be disappointed to drop in the rankings because they couldn't afford to travel across a country (or multiple states) to catch yet another Con.

Still, if the time came when TD was running multiple different dungeons at different Cons, and decided to give XP out for all of them, it would be pretty selfish of me to say "You can't do that, because I deserve to keep my top spot." (I'd still try to make as many of them as possible..,, but when a single TD run costs over $1000 with airfare, it's not gonna be feasible.)

Agreed - the precedent is there. But at True Realm, XP was only given out for doing a dungeon which you hadn't done before (ie, you could get XP for either GenCon 2008 at Indy, OR Director's Cut 2009 at True Realm, not both.) And while there was a "new" dungeon introduced at True Realm worth XP, that same dungeon came to GenCon the following year and was worth the same XP there (ie, you could get XP for either TD Retro at True Realm 2009 OR Five Aspects at GenCon 2009, not both.)

I figure if TD starts bringing out out brand new dungeons at other Cons, they deserve to be worth XP. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that those same dungeons come to GenCon and are worth XP there as well!

Based on that it if a retro dungeon is done and you don't have xp for it, should you then get xp? Not advocating one way other just asking the questions.

If someone starts going to all TD events but someone else only goes to Gen Con shouldn't making it to all those events be worth something just as those that were able to go to the early events are worth something? Again just asking the questions.

I think it should just be 2 runs per year can get you the max for that year, regardless of what run or where.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

Expanding the XP available could result in changes to the leveling system. I'd imagine the XP requirements for higher levels would increase.

There could be other negative impacts. If you could get max XP from WYC and GHC, would you. still go to GenCon? Would this decrease the pool of volunteers for GenCon?

Seriously, for those of us in the Midwest I'm guessing our expense for attending WYC and GHC combined would be less than attending GenCon.

Or if people don't go to Gen Con it frees up tickets for others to play. Aren't getting enough tickets usually an issue?

Though the same argument could be made about anywhere else would like to expand. If they don't seem worth to the attendees then they won't play.

Possible. Maybe people wouldn't feel the need to do as many runs at GenCon.

But my concern was more related to volunteer availability.

A valid concern one that could also be said at any other venue.

Can someone translate what he just said? None of that makes sense to me.

There is the precedent of the mini dungeon (was that 2007?) that was worth XP if your total was less than a certain amount (I think it was 4K XP).

So we have done it in the past, it is not unreasonable to do it again.
