I would probably do this.

I'm so depressed about GC.

jedibcg wrote: Communication is the most important aspect of True Dungeon in my experience. I am extremely worried about how it will work with 10 people via zoom. I fear it could turn into the conference call from hell. Either all 10 people attempting to drive/control the NPC at once or perhaps worse. 1 person driving/control and the other 9 just watching without being able to prove much input.

Don't get me wrong I may try it because it is TD. But I think I am less excited about this that anyone else that has chimed in thus far.

Valid concerns of course, but I'm going with glass half full.....

Worst case still sounds pretty fun. XD

We just did a bit of a test with the TD HQ Crew, and I am pleased by what we have to work with. I think I can make this fun. We will know more after the Patron runs in about three weeks.

Perhaps you could use your phone as a wifi hotspot for your laptop? I'm guessing it would be difficult to play using a phone as there may be puzzles which need to be examined in detail or times when you need to pay close attention to your screen while talking and listening.

I don't think my system will handle this. I have never done zoom. Does it require a camera on my end, or it is something we watch? I dont have mic or camera, so I might be left out.

I will be doing two Zoom connections. One for phone to give camera capability and one on desktop so I can see things. Haven't decided which of the two Zoom connection to use for audio though. Leaning to phone since I also need a youtube connection.

Fortunately a month ago I picked up a cheap in line jib mic with earbuds combo that uses a phones audio jack.

Gotta say I'm super excited TD is gonna try this. It's not gonna be the same as being there but I'll take asteral TD over no TD anytime.

I'm also wondering how feasible throwing up zoom on my phone with my phone thrown into a cheap vr headset holder would be to get a more immersive first person view would be.

Someone should also look into recording/screen capturing the experience. Also what's TDs policy on recording?

Do we know yet how tickets will be sold ie through the TD events page or somewhere else?

Will volunteering still be handled normally through the TD vols site?

Zoom is an application which provides capabilities including video calls and screen sharing. Anyone who isn't the host can join via a web interface which will provide you with both the audio and video, so you won't need to install anything and it's free to use. It's possible to join without using a camera and still see the video, so the only situation which comes to mind where you'd need a camera is to prove which tokens you have or to appear on video (unless Jeff has something planned which will specifically need people to use their camera). Perhaps people who don't have a webcam could take a photo of their tokens beforehand and send that? I'd guess that it's best to have a mic though since you won't be able to talk to anyone otherwise - although as Edwin mentioned above you could use a phone for camera and audio and a pc for video. I'm sure we'll get all the answers once a more detailed update is available.

Disclaimer - the above is based on the version of Zoom I use at work, but I don't expect much will be different for the free version.

I wonder how it will work in situations like mine where only one person has the tokens. My friends have zero tokens, so they won't even have a weapon token they can slide.

Maybe, to help encourage people to sign up for this, an extra-good participation token(s) could be created for it. If there isn't time to get a Chip version, maybe do it as a Wooden token. :)
