TOPIC: Golden Ticket Suggestion

The distribution should definitely not change, especially now after preorders have gone out.

I like the idea of reaching new players and getting them more involved, but warping the probability to do so is absolutely not the way to do it.

I assume they are already evenly distributed. Imagine 100,000 packs lined up. with 1 GT in every 1000 packs. When an order is placed, they fulfill it starting at one end of that line. Now this may be a very simplistic version of their system, but it gives everyone a shot a GT.

You definitely read things differently than I do then.

From the 2023 tokens page ( truedungeon.com/2023-tokens ):

We randomly inserted 100 special Golden Ticket tokens into the 2023 token collection.

These definitely sound like the extras have already been promised to be in the regular distribution.

It wasn’t explicit in saying they were all included with normal purchases.

I’m pretty surprised by the reactions from a small number of highly active buyers and auctioneers opposing giving more people an opportunity to participate in the GT runs. The greed runs deep I suppose. This is part of why newer players have such a negative view of the TD vets.

Jeff, out of generosity, added an extra 40 GTs. Your immediate reaction was to say “mine” rather than consider any of those going to newer players or volunteers more than would otherwise happen.

I can confirm that your chances of getting a GT in a $1k order is 1/8 the chance of an $8k order. A $250 order has 1/32 the chance. I truly believe that Jeff does a good job at that. And I think it's done fairly, and as advertised.

Personally, I would love to see a bunch of new players show up in the GT thread. Every year I see the names of the same people on the GT runs. But those are the folks buying the most Tokens.

Something else to think about. If more new players somehow wound up with GT's, that doesn't necessarily mean they would go on the run. If a new player who's really not into the game finds out they can sell a plastic Token for $1,200 they very well may opt to do so. If they did, there's a good chance it may wind up in the hands of a Vet anyway.

I can confirm that a GT in my first $1k order solidified my TD addiction.

But since veterans buy the vast majority of tokens, they are going to get the vast majority of GTs.

On a related note, since I wasn't really aware of the big increase in Golden Tickets until now, I wonder if that is because token sales are up that significantly. If Jeff is increasing the total quantity of Golden Tickets to keep (for example) around the same percentage chance of getting one in an $8K purchase, that's an impressive sales increase. It will be interesting once people start getting $8K orders to see how the Golden Ticket chance compares to last year. Does anyone know around what the chance of a Golden Ticket last year was in an $8K order?

As the thread author, I saw nothing constructive was happening from the discussion so I asked it be closed.

Yes, I am disappointed that there wasn’t a groundswell of support for extra tickets going to expand the game base and as a reward for volunteers but the thread closure request was based on seeing the conversation as fruitless.

More diversity in who gets them definitely helps grow the game.Strongly agree!
