Plan for a price increase - either you'll be girded or pleasantly surprised.

Gen Con prices have gone up every year (?) for at least 5 years running.

We also need to take into consideration that it takes a little while to figure out the flow of Jeff's puzzles. Even unequipped someone who knows how Jeff thinks will have an advantage over the mostly 100% fresh parties that were going through sealed this year.

I think sealed is very much worth while, we just need to work out the kinks with the difficulty. It might be as simple as making the default difficulty non leathal, or picking a dungeon where the majority of the damage lines up better with the common in print damage reduction tokens.

My sealed group cleared Vipers Pit on Friday at Gen Con without losing a person (2 vets who had never done vipers pit and 8 newbs), so it was possible. What we (the other vet and I) would have absolutely loved would have been the ability to buy additional packs for the run. I totally would have picked up a set of 10 extra packs to share with everyone - it gives me a great excuse to buy and use boosters I wouldn't normally get any use out of.

As much fun as it would have been for viper to be closer to a full run part of the token limit on came from the very limited time and space we had for coaching. Sealed runs are quick to tally, which let us do it with basically no buffer between rooms, anything that slowed that down would have been an issue.

Good to know!

For this year, presuming there will be a sealed event, know that there would be interest in being able to buy extra boosters for the run. Even if it were limited to, say, 2 boosters per person, I would love it.

We only lost a couple people in the final room before running out of time. I think all of us were completely new except for one other couple joining us who had only ever played the year before. Even then, we didn't really feel bad (beyond typical displeasure for not winning a fight) and kinda just talked over how we could have streamlined our combat better in the future. It seemed pretty decently balanced for a team of almost entirely noobs from the experience I had.

Viper was made easier over time. I don't know exactly when it changed, but many groups had a rough time on Thursday from what I heard. Especially if you didn't do well on the puzzles, the damage on those was pretty punishing for what was supposed to be a beginner-friendly sealed run.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

We ended up running pretty early Thursday- I wanna say 10AM-ish? Though, our dwarf fighter ended up accidentally completing the first puzzle by wandering around touching stuff randomly so we didn't really take much damage there. Then someone had also gotten a Loki's blessing scroll in their sealed pack and I pulled a second one out of a rogue box, so we might have had a bit more than average healing available? XD

I know for sure room 5 then room 7 took a lot of people out. I had parties enter room 7 with maybe half of the party left alive from the Medusa. Sometimes, not even that.

I really enjoyed viper since it was a dungeon I had never done before. I really like the option of a low cost dungeon for entry level players. I think Viper was a bit too brutal for sealed, but I think most of the group I ran with survived.

Regarding Viper, from what I could tell, part of it was that the tokens didn't match the dungeon.

It wasn't as big as if it were the N-Series without Bliss weapons, or the Fae world without iron, but if the sealed packs had matched the dungeon, people would've had a slightly better time of it. (Tinkerer stuff, poison control, mirrors, etc).

I understand they did adjust some things but it would help if in future the dungeons are massaged to fit the current token packs, or if some on-brand tokens are available for trade in the coaching rooms, etc.

Note that impression came from only knowing about two rooms and hearing scuttlebutt, it's not necessarily as big a deal as it seemed to me at the time. But it could be. Imagine doing an underwater dungeon without the proper tokens!
I came here to sing and collect tokens, and I'm alllll out of money.

First choice would be to tweak the dungeon. E.g. Medusa causing damage vs stoning. Insta-kill on a sealed run seems draconian.

Second, but a big pain, would be to give each party a small care package of tokens like a few Scroll Stone to Flesh. I think the latter was done during later runs by giving out “virtual tokens.”

Third, but an even bigger pain, would be to hand out “prebuilt” packs instead of random ones. Keep the rarities 1-2-7 with no chance of a UR, but then party cards could be preprinted, and the coaches just spend all their time answering questions

My only problem with that third option is the lack of URs
