And I hope we never tape them down again! Doing so resulted in a sticky mess the next time the mats were used. Not to mention, tape doesn't stick well to the slick plastic tables.

That all said, if someone has a clean and easy method of preventing the mats from moving, please share.

I don't know about the dynamics of sticking to the slick plastic tables, but this kind of tape:

Is designed to be easy to remove and leave no/minimal glue residue.

Accordingly you could use large amounts (e.g. tape all the way down one side of the sheet and wrap it under the table. This would also have the effect of dividing the table into "zones" for each player.

Have they been rigid before...are there thoughts of making more solid (and maybe even with slight token depressions...just a thought...not married to it.

The first two versions were laminated cardstock--a lot more rigid than the current version.

Maybe some rubber type of stick on to go on the corners....wont stop them from being lifted up but should help sliding around.
Fall down......Go boom!

Some coaches like players to spin their mats so the text and tokens are face up to them.

And weird people like me prefer them “upside down.” I have a system, it works for me. YMMV.

My friend uses that to tape down the D&D maps when we do adventures at GENCON. Easy on and easy off.

I wonder if TD could get a good deal on bulk player mats (like the mouse pad style/MTG card mats)....I mean, I would buy my own :)

Someone, I think MasterEd, sells something like that.

As you think about solutions, remember that when we pack up, the mats are placed into a big stack. Anything that causes them to stick together in that stack is going to be problematic.

^^This^^

Furthermore:
  • Anything that makes the mats thicker (or replacing them with neoprene mats) creates a storage space issue.
  • Any "solution" that requires an adhesive substance to be applied to the table is a no-starter.

Can't speak to if it would be financially plausible but 3M command strips work AMAZINGLY.

I hang all of my calendars, arrow quivers and metal art on my walls with them. They hold wonderfully and then fully release with no residue when you pull the tab.
