Whirlwind Attack: If you hit one monster in the room with a melee attack, and another monster is also in melee range, the same amount of damage will be done to the second monster automatically.

I realize this is likely pedantic, but whirlwind attack makes me think of the fighter spinning in place and hitting everything near him or her.

Could we call the ability to hit exactly one extra melee range monster Cleave?

Unless the intent is for the fighter to be able to chain one onto the next onto the next, which it seems not to be.

To me Whirwind conjurs an image of a "whirlwind of motion" aka, doing a bunch of things quickly, not spinning in a circle. Whereas Cleave sounds more like lopping off a chunk of something like a butcher. I'm fine with the name Whirlwind and happy with the power of being able to do the same amount of damage to a second monster in melee range.

I was calling it cleave at first before it was named, but cleave works differently in D&D. You have to kill the first monster to get to the second. Might cause confusion.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Ah, so it is. I was conflating the Pathfinder version of Cleave. Agreed that a new keyword (like Whirlwind) is appropriate then.

I think Whirlwind Attack worked differently in D&D/Pathfinder than what's being proposed ( Link to D20PFSRD ), so Cleave might be cleaner.

Honestly you could call it spinney wheel of death for all I care as long as its the same effect being proposed.

That probably doesn't fit on the token though. :P

Any of those uses of the term is a foreign language for me.

Cleve is how hack a chicken apart.

Whirlwind is something that describes a tornado.

Cleave - requires you to kill the opponent to trigger the extra attack.
Whirlwind Attack - you attack all targets within range.

The ability sounds more like Circle Kick (from Sword and Fist), but that only triggered off of unarmed attacks.

So, use whatever name you like =)
