In general single class tokens have a hard time being desirable - see for instance +2 Staff of Power, once a chase $200+ Wizard token which is still quite good for Alertness in every room being a $20 token on the secondary market.

This is limited to one class, and also has a mediocre effect for that class. After this year one will be able to pick up +2 charm or +2 ioun bracers for cheaper than this, and can probably get more utility out of that slot by filling the new slots with rare tokens that cost a few bucks.

New players who happen to crack this on a run are unlikely to have a shield to use with it also.

Barbarians durability doesn't come from AC.

Anyway - I think this might be an extremely undesirable token.

I'd consider:

a. Make this slotless and remove the +1 to saves
b. Just reprint something people want. With the apparent upcoming focus on DEX Gloves of the Cutpurse might be nice


It’s an interesting effect. To quote you on tokens with interesting effects:

There is an impulse in some people whenever True Dungeon attempts to print an interesting effect on a token, like this, or Butterfly Cloak, that people try to gas it up to the point where it also offers static benefits approaching the level of a UR toke in that slot.


I think it could gain some static effects and access for a few other classes and it would be just fine. Alternatively, instead of adding passive powers, making better shields would also make this more appealing. To this end, perhaps Thors mug should be Thor’s shield with +2 AC, +4 damage, and limited to Barbarian, Cleric, fighters, and Paladin.

Paladin with a holy great sword or Averon’s while keeping redoubt shield could be very fun.

It’s an unusual effect, not an interesting one.

It’s a slot swapper (wrist slot for +1 melee offhand slot) with an upside (+1 saves) and some restrictions (must equip two handed melee in one offhand slot, must equip shield in other offhand slot to get the extra slot).

Interesting effects are things like grunnels funnel, butterfly cloak, tome of useful scrolls, shirt of the fae, etc.

But it’s not a slot expander as it doesn’t give an extra melee offhand slot, it just pairs with 2H weapon. If only all slot modifying tokens were so conditional

I corrected my original post - it’s a a lot swapper - like charm of brooching.

It’s unusual for a slot swapper in that it also has a built in effect (+1 saves), and places restrictions on what you can do with the slot.

But at bottom this grants you a second melee offhand slot.

If we're going to start a cycle, can we wait until after the class redesigns (and possibly engine updates) are done? Otherwise, we may be in a weird state where some of the tokens are designed for outdated cards whereas others will be targeted at the revamped cards and abilities.

One thought is the drop the class restrictions on the shield maiden bracers and then in a future year bring back the ability on either a charm or bead similar to the bead of guided strike as a barbarian only ability. This would follow the pattern of guided strike and make the ability more available at the cost of a contested slot and then more narrowly available in a slot to where you can equip multiple items.

Edit: or make it a bead or charm now and leave open the possibility of a bracers slot later.

Earcuff of the Cabal:
I'm still of the opinion that Monks should not be inducted into the cabal just because they can use Mystic Staves.
But if they are, then Rangers and Paladins should also be inducted because there are damage scrolls they can use, and should retroactively be allowed on Gloves of the Cabal because there are single-targeting scrolls they can use.
At which point, with two-thirds of the classes represented, it'd be less of a cabal and more of an open conspiracy against pure martial classes.
