TOPIC: Once Upon a Time - A tale of True Dungeoneers

Re: Once Upon a Time - A tale of True Dungeoneers 13 years 6 months ago #13

In addition to it's changing colors, it also began to change shape and grow, enlarging and morphing into an increasingly familiar form. The same beautiful woman I had seen under the archway before looked at me and said in an icy voice "Did you really think you could destroy me with a simple Wand of Disintegration? We could have done this the easy way, now it will be considerably more painful ... for you."

As you begin praying to your diety, You think if ever there was a time for a wish ring, now would be it!

In a state of mind, deranged as my own must be, I could but not resist the temptation: a single lick of that rat’s back would certainly set me free, but how to turn fate’s time back I yelled to my diety!

[Ew yuck.
I don't think I want to touch that line.
Does anyone else want to follow it?]

Though such thoughts were beyond me in my current frame of mind, I would later reflect thankfully on how the shapeshifter lithely dodged me with an expression of disgust.

As it screeched to the side, looking mortified at what must certainly be my intent I noticed something strange: my cell door was ajar, the carved rat face in the stone gaped wide.

With reflexes driven by the most basic of instincts, I dashed through the portal towards safety. I just barely remembered in time to close and secure the cell behind me.

But alas all my hope was in vain as the wish ring I was indeed wearing began to take effect, leaving me only with 1000 gold and the spent wish for a wish ring that I already possessed: the wish had broken the illusion cast upon me by an old hag that had previously shown herself as true beauty.

It was a terrible disappointment but only a delaying hindrance for now. I turned and crept along the corridor seeking freedom.

Heart pounding in my chest. I hugged the walls of this dank dungeon. Passing other cells identical to my own. I heard singing coming from one of them. My heart swelled with hope.

My feet froze to the floor as my breath caught short. I could scarcely believe what I heard, that beloved melody from that voice that had no equal. I knew who sang beyond the cell door.
