TOPIC: Polling the gang. . .

Re: Polling the gang. . . 17 years 8 months ago #13

I think the medium size would probably be what most gamers would want, like my sister said. Bags don't have to be too big to fit a *lot* of dice. Large bags would go better with costumes, probably, but I don't know if there'd be as much interest in that. And a medium size would still work to carry some things.

For the colors, I think the black, red, and gold skull fabrics are pretty cool-looking. I'm not so keen on the purple personally, but it could definitely make something nifty-looking.

PURPLE!!

Oops. Got distracted for a minute by the pretty, shiny fabric. *Scurries of to get back to work*

PS - I definitely think people would buy these bags.

Joyus,
I really like that green vine fabric. How much would you charge for one of the bags?

Kim

Wow.
That is amazing fabric! Where did you get it, DD? And is there more to be had??
I know you said it was expensive, but may I trouble you to know the price per yard??? (Fabric is always more expensive in Canada than the US, and most places don't/won't order in the expensive 'niche' fabrics like that. I'm wondering what the odds would be on getting some of that fabric by the yard to make costumes out of.)

- Raven

DD

They are beautiful brocades. I could go for a red one for me and a purple one for Mrs Widseth, if you have them GT night or before.

Widseth

Okay, this is my concern, because the fabric is expensive it makes the bags more expensive.
The satin lined style would be
A medium $18.00
A large $20.00

Although I could probably do an unlined style which would take a bit less work and only one fabric. But would take more of the brocade, since I make the bag panels taller then fold them down to create the top ruffle and casing for the cord drawstring.
So a medium would be like $15 and say $18 for the Large.

I'm afraid that the price would probably be too much. Cording has also been harder to find. One time I had to buy it at Joanns since it was the only place I could find it, and they charged me $2 a yard for cord! So I'd be investing a lot into materials, thus why I wanted y'alls feedback. Cause if you don't think there would be interest I'd really just be wasting alot of money on materials.

So y'all there would be interest. But at that kind of price do you think that would be prohibitive?
I mean most are use to cheap bags, and I absolute cringe when I see the way things are made sometimes. And I just don't know if people would be willing if they see the pricetag.
What do y'all think?

If they are really nice, I don't think that is too expensive. Definately post one when you have one completed.

How large is medium and how large is large? Just roughly. Either way I will take two--red for me and purple for Mrs W. If they are as nice as they look they are not too expensive.

Widseth

$18-20 for a beautiful, satin-lined bag? I'd definitely take one, and I might buy one for my friend as well. I've seen bags that cost almost that much, but aren't nearly so nice.
How large is medium and how large is large? Just roughly. Either way I will take two--red for me and purple for Mrs W. If they are as nice as they look they are not too expensive.

Widseth

Overall measurements:
Large is 11" across, 12" tall, 10" deep.
Medium is 7 1/2" across, 9 1/2 " tall, 7 1/2" deep.

Here is a picture of a couple medium bags I had done so you can have an idea of how they are. One has short cords(as ordered), and one is long for using as a purse and has a decorative tassel(as ordered).

And a front view so you can see the width, this was a medium drawstring bag, longer cord for purse like wearing:

I figured I'd center the skull on the bags so they'd be clearly visible.
Widseth I hope that helped answer your question some. Since you've expressed interest in purple I'll order some of that as well. Please specify which side you want out since the fabric is reversible. I.E Purple background, black skull. Or black background Purple skull. I want to make sure that it would be exactly as you wish. Also, did you want black satin or purple satin interior?
Same detail questions for the lovely Mrs. Widseth's bag, would she like short cords or long for wearing it like a purse from her shoulder. As well as what size you would wish them to be.

Kathy, and Kim, if you girls were interested in a bag, let me know what size and if you'd like green or black satin lining, or if you prefered an unlined version. And what length cord handles you want.

I really do appreciate y'alls feedback and thoughts. I'll be ordering the fabric sunday, and probably getting it by wednesday so next week I should be able to show what a finished result would look like. :)
