i don't think after 8 months its like you're not protected or that protection falls off rapidly. I think it just starts to decline and thus the boosters. Of course, I could be wrong about that.

As time goes on they still continue to learn more. So, I'm not really surprised when recommendations shift.

How we live with covid

This is a good article that discusses previous coronaviruses, and what we may need to expect of COVID-19.

Tldr: with reinfections and breakthrough infections occurring, but less severe, covid may eventually become similar to the common cold. Always circulating, but less impactful than right now. It could also be as or more severe than the flu (which is far more deadly than I had ever thought...why is 'just the flu' even a thing?).

But when it comes to vaccines, the question is: do you want your body's first introduction to covid to be from a vaccine or infection?
this is not a signature.

We did the same.

GC has a way of messing things up. they would not take a stand on vaccines. If they would have made them mandatory Like GHC, I might have gone.

alas, GHC is where I am focused. Everyone 12 and older will be vaccinated and we may or may not be required to wear masks(the city and county are requiring it right now)

Yup. Focused on GHC as well. Far too many people seemed very "woohoo, the vaccine makes me bullet proof and I can do whatever I want"...including a couple folks I'd planned on seeing/traveling with. It was a reckoning for me that it was just a bad idea for us to go. I actually posed the question this way "is the substandard gencon we'd plan, at full gencon prices, worth getting sick in general and ruining my chance at GHC"

I fear one of the most insidious lasting effects of all this will be the psychological.
My mother in law is in a nursing home, so my wife and I are still in lockdown mode, even though we are vaccinated. My wife went to a restaurant for the first time yesterday, and said she felt like bugs were crawling on her skin the whole time. We don't do crowds at all, and don't go anywhere. Even so, some of our friend group won't even do that. We have seen everyone only once since March 2020. spread far apart at a fire pit.
I know we are not unique, as downtown hotels are still available for GenCon.
It will be interesting to see how long before people creep back into things again.
I know some have, some will never again and the rest of us will do so very slowly.

Got dose #2 today, so in 2 weeks on my birthday I will be fully vaccinated. Sounds like a good present to myself and others.

Still hoping to fit GHC into budget and time constraints. Only time will tell.

It does make you feel more secure after number two. It was really hard, and we haven't changed our habits. But it does make me ready to wander back to the Earth That Was.

I just realized Madison is a 4 hour drive, not 6, just like Indy. That might be doable as a 1 day trip, provided I can come up with some funds for car rental, badge, and of course TD tickets!

I would love to get to GHC someday. Its a 9 hour drive for me. A piece of cake if I were still 22 years old, but now, not so much. I wish I could Amtrak to Madison. I would be totally in. Someday, someday

I used to live ~2 hours from Madison. I moved the year before it started

Let's hear it for LAUSD - first major school district to mandate vaccines for all students (medical exemptions as usual, hopefully not religious ones) 12 years and older!

Extra good news b/c I am a teacher in LA.
