TOPIC: Building a game room

I'd just say "bigger than you think" .

I inherited a ~8x4 gaming table and it just swallows a room. As people have said, you'll want at least 3 feet of clearance in all directions so that's already 14x10 with absolutely nothing else in the room.

Mine is in a ~14x14 room with a few other pieces of furniture (5 shelves, a desk, a recliner, and a bureau) and it's way too small for all that stuff.

If you can build to spec I'd make at least one wall built in shelves, probably with cabinets for the lower levels.

I think a layout like this works well based on a friends house.
Where B are built in bookshelves and D is the doorway to the room, and W is an exterior window.

i saw something on tv at a friend's house. a table that lowered from the ceiling. it had legs that folded down for stability. what i liked best was the layered tops. you could work on a jigsaw puzzle on the bottom layer. drop the second level down and play a game. then drop another level and have supper. the one i saw had 4 layers. what made it workable was the legs were adjustable so the table top height never really changed.

Was it a custom table or from a manufacturer? I'm personally still looking for a table and that sounds interesting.

Incredible - I’ve got a geek chiq table with the inset but:

A. Practically pulling to panels off and storing them is a pain.

B. The space inside / under the panels is too limited to leave lots of things set up - too narrow for Dwarven Forge tiles for example.

I’ve taken to getting some 8 inch tall dunning shelves to put on top of my gaming table to make a secondary pay surface that can be removed to reveal a fully built dungeon underneath.

2 or more usable levels seems perfect.
