TOPIC: "What are you listening to?"

Re: "What are you listening to?" 17 years 6 months ago #73

Maybe very boring, but I'm a sound track kinda guy. LOTR, StarWars, Brave Heart, Last of the Mohicans (sp?), Close Encounters, Conan the Barbarian, Harry Potter, Superman, and of course (for those of you who have traversed the dungeon halls with me as a bard)--musical sound tracks--West Side Story, Man of La Mancha, Sound of Music, King and I, South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof, Mary Poppins--incurable romantic type stuff. Mostly when driving I listen to talk radio and news, but for music I listen to CDs of Cuzco, Yanni, or other new ageish instrumental fare. Every once in a while I hit a classical snag and get stuck on listening to Beethoven, Mozart, Handel,Tschaikovsky (sp?)--but that doesn't usually last too long. I've lost track of most of the new bands and groups. Being the old fart that I am, I grew up in high school with the Beatles, Stones, Doors, etc, but even back then I preferred movie sound tracks. I just think sound tracks are the symphonies of our day.

Boy, I bet all of you would like to ride with me in my car now, huh?

Widseth

YES! I see lots of fabulous music listed!
If you like LOTR and New Age/renaissancy(is that word? If not it is now :P ), have you heard David Arkenstone's Music Inspired By Middle Earth.
I'm particularly partial to The Road To Rivendell.

I love the way David Arkenstone makes a journey with his music. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride. He had one (that I can't remember the name or cd it was on) that had you riding on the back of a giant butterfly. I'd turn out the lights and let my mind get into the mood of the music.

Oh, I'm listening to the Three Dog Night's Greatest Hits.

Yes, his cds are a journey through music. Its interesting how he usings music to paint his stories. Do you listen at all to Diane Arkenstone's music? I really enjoy her music as well.

Currently listening to Leftfield's Open Up on the Hackers Soundtrack.
*Flits back off to sewing*

(Three Dog Night) JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROG...

No Widseth, you are not alone in your kind of musical taste. But listening to classical driving home (unless its blood pumping tarantellas or the like) would put me to sleep actually. Chopin's Military polonaise is a good example. =D

I'd pop in something like Lippa's "Wild Party", Finn's "A New Brain" for an enjoyable long commute since it is 40 miles each way from home to work for me everyday.

That is... unless I am listening to Howard Stern =D
