Right - the HIRST stuff is like a silicon/rubber material that has been expertly poured over/around the original casting pieces.

I don't think I could sculpt even close to the level of detail as these molds!

I'm curious to see how long they last.

Gary, I have molds that over 5 years old and they are still like new.

I figured with good care they would last a long long time...I was just curious if they deteriorate or something.

OOOOO - it is time for the base coat of paint!!! I went to Home Depot and got pretty close to the same paint Hirst uses... Now to test my mixing skills.

oh - the real challenge will be in the dry brush stage...I typically don't do well with dry-brush work.

Dry brush= Just remember.......less is best. The less paint you have on your brush, the better effects it brings out. Layers of different colors - all dry brushed one at a time and added after through dryness - gives the look of depth.

THX! I think that is my prob...I just have never painted where I wasn't trying to totally cover something up.

I'm going to let the base coat dry overnight and see if I am darring in the morning!

Well without further ado...

I'm pleased with how it turned out...I'm not very skilled with a paint brush so this project went relatively well from that perspective.

OH - here are some of the fantastic accessory pieces - I can't wait to get painting these!!!

And finally - here are some odd-ball pieces (some I even created) which I can use as stand alone items or in dungeon play.

3 pointers for those looking to do this ...

Empty box lids - or "soda flat boxes" work really well to hold pieces for drying (picture one back left corner of photo, and picture two in above post) - and they can stack on top of each other for space saving.

When gluing - I use a toothpick to spread the glue and add air to the glue...this really helps make a good solid union when guling together. (oh and the toothpick can be held in mouth when not in use - just be sure to get the right end.)

When your glue bottle is half way to empty...you can set it on its side instead of upright - this saves time and effort getting a dab of glue out.
