Token Exchange Program

token-exchange

True Dungeon Treasure Tokens have been a player favorite for many years, and the popularity of collecting tokens keeps expanding every year.  One of the reasons for this popularity is the Token Exchange Program.  With this mail-in service, collectors are able to send in unwanted Treasure Tokens (mostly duplicate Commons and Uncommons) and exchange them for free limited-edition Trade, Reserve or Transmuted tokens. Most token exchange orders are processed in 1-2 business days and mailed back via USPS Priority Mail.

Scroll down below the FAQ to begin the process of transmuting your tokens.

 Please Read

PLEASE follow these instructions when you are packing up your tokens to send in to us. Yes, it's a lot to read and follow, but it is vital information. Do NOT be a victim of a damaged or destroyed package! We want to make sure your tokens arrive safely. People who pack their tokens without following those guidelines often wind up with damaged packages and missing tokens. Don't be one of those people.

Trade Tokens: There are 12 different Trade tokens available to collectors. For example, a collector can send in 25 units of Ring tokens and receive back a free Philosopher's Stone Trade token. There is a Trade token available for almost all unwanted tokens--if a collector has a sufficient quantity to fulfill the recipe. These Trade tokens can be traded with other collectors or turned in as part of a recipe for a Transmuted Token.

Reserve Tokens: There are three different Reserve tokens. They come in 1,000 GP (gold pieces), 5,000 GP, or 25,000 GP values. For example, a collector could send in a variety of low-denomination tokens that have varying GP values. If all the submitted tokens' total GP value is 1,000, the collector receives back a free 1,000 GP Gold Bar. Reserve tokens can be used to facilitate the trading of large sums of gold pieces and are also required in certain recipes for Transmuted tokens.

Transmuted Tokens: There are many different types of Transmuted tokens, some of which are some of the most rare and powerful tokens available. Each Transmuted token has its own unique recipe. When a collector sends in all the tokens in a recipe, they get that particular limited-edition Transmuted token back for free. Most Transmuted token recipes expire after about two years. After the creation window closed, that token can never be made again. However, there are some (including all Legendaries) whose recipe never expires. The most powerful Transmuted tokens may require a collector to gather the necessary tokens for several years, but in the end the collector winds up with a very rare and powerful token!

Frequently Asked Questions

Let's say I have the following to trade in for several Philosopher's Stones:
     12 Rare Rings, etc. (12 × 6 pts = 72pts)
     1 Uncommon Ring (3pts)
     Total 75, or 3 Stones
How should these tokens be bagged as it's not an easy division of tokens for each into 25 pts?

Please try to avoid this situation if possible. If you cannot, in the above example please place 24 pts of tokens separately in 3 bags, and then place the left-over 3 pts token in a separate non-labeled bag. Then, take all four bags and place them together in a larger zip-top bag. This is how we will know that this special case has occurred.

What's the deal with these 10× Trade tokens?
To make it easier for token collectors to store and ship some of the more common Trade tokens, we now offer larger denominations of the Trade 1 tokens. Each 10× Trade token is differentiated from its standard version by a light tan "peanut butter" back and a large "10×" emblazoned over the item's image. 10× Trade tokens are treated exactly like ten of their standard versions. They can be used in recipes that require 10 or more of that item. For example, if a recipe requires 11 Minotaur Hide tokens, you could submit one 10× Minotaur Hides and one Minotaur Hide to fulfil that requirement.

When ordering ten or more of a Trade 1 token, you indicate which denominations you'd like to receive. For example, if you're sending in enough clothing items to make 32 Mystic Silks, you could order three as 10× and two as standard, one 10× and twenty-three standard, or any combination that totals 32.

Can I convert my existing standard Trade tokens into 10× versions?
Yes. Simply order whichever quantity of 10× tokens you'd like and send in the appropriate number of standard versions.

Can I convert a 10× Trade token into ten standard (1×) tokens?
Yes. Order 10 of the standard (1×) version of that token. But instead of sending in bags of "raw" tokens, put your 10× token in the bag. On the bag tag, hand-write "×10" after the name of the token before inserting it (text side out) into the bag.

E.g., if you want to convert a 10× Dwarven Steels into ten (1×) Dwarven Steel tokens, you would order 10 Dwarven Steel tokens, place a 10× Dwarven Steels in a zip-top bag, take a Dwarven Steel bag tag and hand-write "×10" on it, then insert that tag into the bag--text side facing out.

If I'm sending in a Transmute and I only have a 10×, can I get "change" back?
Yes, but with a couple provisions:

  1. Write us a brief note explaining what's going on.
E.g., don't make us guess that you intended to send in a 10× Mystic Silks for a recipe that only requires 5 Mystic Silk or for two recipes that requite 4 Mystic Silk each.
  2. Order whatever change you need back.
E.g., If you're sending in a 10× Mystic Silks token for a recipe that only needs 5 Mystic Silk, in addition to the note explaining what's going on, order 5 Mystic Silk tokens. If you're already sending in "base" tokens to exchange for Mystic Silk, add 5 (or whatever amount of change you need) to that total.
We need the order form to reflect the total number of tokens we are to send you.

How do I prepare the bags for 10× Trade tokens?
Bag your tokens exactly the same way you would if you were ordering ten of the standard versions. For example, if you're making a 10× Dwarven Steels token, you'd submit ten separate bags, each containing 25 Common weapon tokens. Do not send in one bag containing 250 Common weapons.

The same goes for point-based Trade tokens. For example, if you're making a 10× Philosopher's Stones token, you'd submit ten separate bags, each containing 25 points worth of jewelry or wands. Do not send in one bag containing 250 points worth of jewelry or wands.

Do I first have to exchange my raw tokens into 1× tokens before trading them in for 10× versions?
No. You may directly exchange raw tokens for 10× Trade tokens, as long as you have the correct number of raw tokens or a combination of raw tokens and 1× tokens to convert. E.g., If you want a 10× Dwarven Steels, you could send in 250 Common Weapons (see previous Q&A), or 50 Common weapons and 8 (1×) Dwarven Steel, or any combination of 1× and raw tokens that equates to 10 Dwarven Steel.

When is the cut-off date for sending in tokens for exchange prior to a convention?
We MUST receive your shipment two weeks before the start of the convention if you want to receive it back before that convention. All orders RECEIVED less than two weeks before a convention will be processed around a week after we return from that convention.

Can I send more than one of the same type of transmute in the same bag? For example, can I send in enough tokens to make three Dwarven Steel in one bag? Or do I need to break them down into 3 bags?
It depends on the type of Trade Tokens you're exchanging.

  • Standard: For all weapon and/or armor Trade tokens (Dwarven Steel, Minotaur Hide, Elven Bismuth, Oil of Enchantment, and Aragonite), please place them in separate bags. To make 3 Dwarven Steel tokens, you would need 3 different zip-top bags, each containing 25 Common weapon tokens.
  • Optional: For all point-based Trade tokens (Alchemist's Ink, Alchemist's Parchment, Darkwood Plank, Enchanter's Munition, Minotaur Hide, Mystic Silk, and Philosopher's Stone), you may put exactly 25 Uncommons ("×3") or exactly 25 Rares ("×6") in a single bag, but they must be marked accordingly. Let's say you're submitting a single bag of 25 Rare jewelry tokens, thus ordering 6 Philosopher's Stone tokens. Take 1 (one) Philosopher's Stone label and manually write "×6" on it. Take that single "Philosopher's Stone ×6" slip and place it in the bag (text side facing out so it can be easily read) of 25 Rare jewelry tokens. If you were to submit 25 Uncommon jewelry items, you'd write "×3" on the Philosopher's Stone slip.
    • Please do not put more than one slip in a bag.
    • Please do not utilize this optional method if you have mixed rarities in the bag or with any quantity of tokens other than 25. This means, for example, do not put 23 Uncommons and 1 Rare in a bag. If you don't have exactly 25 Rares of the same category or exactly 25 Uncommons of the same category, please use the standard bagging method of one Trade token per bag.
  • When submitting tokens to be exchanged for Trade items, please do not put more than 25 tokens in a single snack-size bag. It slows down the verification process and the bags tend to split.

We ask you to follow these procedures to speed up the fulfillment process and make it much more error-free.

Can I send in for more than one Transmuted Token in one shipment to TD?

  • Example 1 : From above, if they have to be separate bags, can I stick many zip-top bags into one box?
  • Example 2 : I have one of every type of Trade Token, each in their own bag, can I stick that in one box?

Yes. You can put any number of different kinds of zip-top bags in any Small Flat Rate box. Just be sure the appropriate printed-out label is placed inside each bag.

If I want to transmute a token but I don’t yet have all the required Trade item ingredients, can I just send in the equivalent tokens so I only have to make one shipment?
No. To fulfill a Transmuted token’s recipe, you must provide the exact items the recipe calls for—not the equivalent in "raw" tokens. E.g., if you want to make a recipe that requires one Elven Bismuth, you must send in an Elven Bismuth token, not 25 Uncommon weapons in its place. This also applies if you are also making Trade tokens for future exchange. You may not send in (as an example) 50 Uncommon weapons and request that one of those two Elven Bismuths be applied to a recipe in the same shipment. Long story short, you’ll need to make two shipments: the first one where you send in for all the Trade and/or Reserve tokens you need, and then a second shipment where you submit the exact recipe the Transmuted token you want calls for.

Why are we being "meanies" like this? The process has been designed to eliminate errors and confusion. It’s quite perplexing to try and interpret the convoluted schemes some collectors concoct. Rather than attempting to decipher twists, turns, and multi-layer cross-references, we want to keep these transactions as simple and uncomplicated as possible. This results in far fewer errors and reduces the number of angry emails from people whose convoluted orders got mixed up.

We realize this situation is not a perfect one, but we feel strongly that this is the best way to handle it. We think avoiding confusion and reducing errors is worth the added inconvenience. We understand it costs more in shipping this way (for both of us), but we think an orderly exchange is ultimately best for all parties.

Do you have any suggestions on how to properly pack my tokens?
YES! In fact, we have an entire page devoted to just that topic. To be frank, they're not just suggestions. To ensure your package arrives at TDHQ safely, you really do need to abide by all those instructions.

Golden Ticket

If you are one of the very lucky gamers to acquire a 2023 Golden Ticket token in your token order, you must send the Golden Ticket token to us to gain your prize. To do so, please add a Golden Ticket token to your cart before checking out. Once completed, you'll be able to print an address label to use to send the token to us. After we receive it, we flag you as being eligible to go on one of the special GT runs at Gen Con (Wednesday, Aug. 2nd) or Gamehole Con (Thursday, Oct. 19th). The exact times are shown on this page.

Also, don't forget to sign up for the specific run you'd like to go on via this forum thread.

If you have any questions, please email goldenticket@truedungeon.com.

Note: There are two different versions of Golden Ticket tokens this year: "Team Francis" and "Team Gib Gub". However... the team names are just for fun and don't mean anything! They both redeem exactly the same way, and they mean exactly the same thing. You can use either of them at either convention--Gen Con or Gamehole Con.

2023 Treasure

Treasure Chips can be redeemed at in-person events or by mail.

When you choose this option, set the quantity to the total number of treasure draws you are claiming, not necessarily the number of physical tokens you're sending in. E.g., if you're sending in one 10x Treasure Chip and one 3x Treasure Chip, enter a quantity of 13.

The cutoff date to redeem 2023 Treasure Chips is January 5, 2024. We must receive the 2023 Treasure Chip tokens on or before that date.

Transmuted Tokens

Token collectors can convert or "transmute" a particular group of tokens to obtain a special Transmuted Token. A different recipe (or list of certain tokens) must be submitted for each Transmuted Token. This is the only manner that these Transmuted Tokens are available to collectors. They cannot be purchased from the TD Store.

Each Transmuted Token has a unique recipe that must be fulfilled. A maximum of ten of each Transmuted token can be requested per order.

No more than five (5) One-Boot Billy's Map tokens may be transmuted per person per calendar month.
Also, no more than five (5) One-Boot Billy's Map (OBBMs) per person can be transmuted at a given in-person event. This restriction still applies if the event's duration happens to start at end of one month and conclude at the beginning of the following month. E.g., if an event ran from Saturday the 31st to Sunday the 1st, you could not transmute five OBBMs on Saturday and then another five on Sunday.
Note: The cap of 5 transmutable One-Boot Billy's Maps has nothing to do with how many OBBMs can be redeemed for treasure pulls. Under most circumstances, there is no limit to how many OBBMs can be redeemed per live event. That said, we may occasionally need to temporarily restrict the number of OBBMs that can be redeemed if current inventory levels are too low.
